2022 Tesla Model X recalls
Delayed Rearview Camera Image Raises Backover Crash Risk
Certain Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles running software version 2026.8.6 may show the rearview camera image late after the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
Horn May Not Sound Due to Wrong Steering Air Bag Pad
Some Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles may have been built with a steering wheel air bag that has the incorrect horn pad.
Driver Airbag May Tear During Deployment
Certain Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles from model years 2021 through 2024 may have a driver's frontal airbag cushion that could tear when the airbag deploys.
Hood May Open While Driving, Blocking View
Certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles may have a hood latch assembly that fails to detect when the hood has not been fully latched after being opened.
Seat belt warning may not sound for unbelted driver
Some Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles may have a seat belt warning light and chime that do not activate as intended when the driver is unbelted.
Dashboard brake and ABS warning text too small to read easily
The instrument panel on these Tesla vehicles displays the Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning lights in an incorrect font size.
Cabin doors can unlock in a crash, raising injury risk
Certain Model S and Model X vehicles from 2022 and 2023 may have cabin doors that unlock during a crash.
Driver Misuse Risk With Autosteer Driver-Assist Feature
This recall covers vehicles with Autosteer, an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance feature.
Wrong driver airbag may deploy incorrectly in crash
Some steering wheels or yokes were replaced with a different style, but an airbag not designed for that replacement may have been installed.
Low brake fluid may go unwarned, raising crash risk
Certain 2021-2023 Tesla Model X vehicles may fail to detect low brake fluid, so the dashboard warning light will not come on.
Front Seat Belts May Detach in a Crash
Certain front-row seat belts may not be properly connected to the pretensioner anchors, which means the belt can come loose from its attachment point.
Software may let vehicle run intersections or exceed speed limits
Certain Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving Beta software, or with that software pending installation, may act unsafely around intersections.
Passenger Front Airbag May Deploy Incorrectly in Low-Speed Crashes
Certain 2021-2023 Tesla Model X vehicles have a restraint control module calibration issue that may cause the front passenger airbag to deploy incorrectly during certain low-speed crashes.
Power Windows May Pinch Occupants and Injure Them
Certain Tesla vehicles may have a power window automatic reversal system that does not react correctly after detecting an obstruction.
Infotainment Screen May Freeze, Hiding Rearview Camera
The central infotainment computer in certain Tesla vehicles can overheat while the car is preparing for or during fast charging.
Second-Row Seat May Not Restrain Occupants in a Crash
A reinforcement bracket was not installed at the second-row seat, so the seat and its belt anchorages may not meet federal safety standards.
External speaker can drown out pedestrian warning sounds
Certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y vehicles from model years 2017 through 2022 have a Boombox feature that can play sounds through the external speaker while the vehicle is moving.
Side Curtain Airbags May Not Deploy Properly
Certain front-row side curtain airbags may not deploy as intended when the windows are lowered.
External speaker can drown out EV pedestrian warning sounds
Certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y vehicles have a Boombox feature that can play sound through an external speaker while the car is moving.
Software glitch may reduce windshield defrosting and visibility
A software error can cause a heat pump valve to open unintentionally, trapping refrigerant inside the evaporator.
Seat Belt Chime May Not Sound, Raising Injury Risk
Certain Tesla vehicles may not sound the audible seat belt reminder chime when the vehicle starts and the driver has not buckled their seat belt.
Vehicles May Roll Through All-Way Stops, Raising Crash Risk
Certain Tesla vehicles equipped with the Full Self-Driving (Beta) software may allow the "rolling stop" function to take the vehicle through an all-way stop intersection without first coming to a complete stop.

The driver-side liner from a WeatherTech Custom Fit FloorLiner first-row set, part 4416821, installed in a 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid bowed outward near the accelerator pedal. The set was purchased through Amazon on June 14, 2026, and sold by WeatherTech. On two separate occasions, I pressed the accelerator and it would not move normally because it caught against the bowed liner. When I pressed harder, it released and the vehicle surged forward abruptly. No one was in front of the vehicle, and I stopped without a collision. My wife was frightened by the sudden movement and did not initially understand what happened. We identified the liner interference, removed the liner and notified WeatherTe
Dear NHTSA Safety Investigation Team, I am filing an urgent safety complaint regarding dangerous and premature inner-edge rear tire wear on my 2022 Tesla Model X. I have already been forced to replace five tires due to excessive inner-edge wear, which I believe is caused by improper rear suspension camber. Despite repeatedly raising this concern, Tesla has failed to provide a permanent solution. This is a critical safety hazard, not routine tire wear. The damage occurs on the inner edges of the tires, making it difficult to detect and creating a serious risk of sudden tire failure, loss of vehicle control, and potentially catastrophic highway accidents. Similar complaints from other Mode
The left and right turning signal buttons work intermittently. I would tap on the buttons but they would not turn on the corresponding signal for other drivers to see. I would tap on the buttons multiple times if the initial press fails, but that does not help. I usually resort to turning on the hazard lights and slowly make the needed vehicle turn. This is a hazard to myself, my occupants, and all driving around me.
I own a 2022 Tesla Model X. I began noticing a creaking/clicking noise from the front steering/suspension area, particularly when turning the steering wheel at larger angles and at low speeds. I brought the vehicle to a Tesla Service Center for inspection. Tesla inspected the vehicle and diagnosed a bent steering rack/steering component. Tesla recommended replacement of the complete steering gear assembly, along with repairs to front suspension components. Tesla provided photographs of the condition and stated in writing that bending this component would require approximately 4,000 to 6,000 pounds of force at a specific angle. Tesla attributed the condition to an external impact. However, I
CRITICAL FLUIDITY/ACCESSIBILITY DEFECT The vehicle lacks a standard mechanical horn assembly, instead it is equipped with a small electronic button. This configuration creates a severe safety hazard due to the following critical failure points: High-Stress Unusability: The button is highly difficult to locate during an unfolding emergency, causing a dangerous delay in driver reaction time. Loss of Function During Maneuvers: When the steering wheel is actively turning, the button's position shifts constantly, making it physically impossible to find or press reliably while evasive steering is underway. Failure to Warn: This design directly compromises the driver's ability to sound an immediate
