Tesla Model Y Recall 22V296: Infotainment Screen May Freeze, Hiding Rearview Camera

NHTSA campaign 22V296, reported May 3, 2022, 129,960 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The central infotainment computer in certain Tesla vehicles can overheat while the car is preparing for or during fast charging. When this happens, the computer may slow down or restart, and the center screen may stop showing the rearview camera image, the selected gear, windshield visibility settings, and warning lights.

A loss of the rearview camera image and gear display can raise the risk of a crash, especially when backing up. Owners should be aware of this risk and take extra care when reversing if the screen behaves abnormally.

Tesla will fix the problem with a free over-the-air software update that improves how the computer manages its temperature, so no dealer visit is needed for the repair itself. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 with recall number SB-22-00-009, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
