Tesla Model S Recall 25V172: Horn May Not Sound Due to Wrong Steering Air Bag Pad

NHTSA campaign 25V172, reported March 19, 2025, 91 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles may have been built with a steering wheel air bag that has the incorrect horn pad. As a result, the horn may not sound when the driver presses it, so the driver may be unable to alert other drivers nearby.

An inoperative horn can prevent you from warning other drivers of a hazard, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners were notified by letter starting May 20, 2025.

Tesla will inspect the air bag and install one with the correct horn pad where needed, at no cost to you, through an authorized service center. To check whether your vehicle is affected, call Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 or check your VIN for open recalls.
