Tesla Model X Recall 23V679: Low brake fluid may go unwarned, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 23V679, reported October 11, 2023, 54,676 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2023 Tesla Model X vehicles may fail to detect low brake fluid, so the dashboard warning light will not come on. The vehicle may then be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Tesla is providing a free over-the-air software update to correct the problem. Owner notification letters were mailed December 12, 2023. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, and check your VIN for open recalls.

If you own one of these vehicles, schedule the update as soon as possible and keep an eye on your brake fluid level in the meantime. Contact Tesla customer service with any questions about the remedy.
