2017 Freightliner Cascadia recalls
Brakes May Pull to One Side, Risking a Crash
Corroded front brake modulator valves can cause the vehicle to pull toward one side when the brakes are applied by Electronic Stability Control or Roll Stability Control.
Brakes May Pull to One Side During Adaptive Cruise Braking
Corrosion can develop in the front-axle brake modulator valves on certain heavy trucks.
Brake lights may stay on after pedal release, raising crash risk
Certain 2017-2021 Freightliner Cascadia trucks may have brake lights that remain illuminated after the brake pedal has been released.
Headlight Bulb Can Dislodge and Melt Nearby Parts, Raising Fire Risk
Certain Freightliner Cascadia trucks with halogen headlight assemblies may have a headlight bulb that dislodges during bulb replacement.
Brakes May Pull to One Side During Automatic Braking
Corrosion in the single brake modulator valve can slow the valve's release timing.
Rear reflective tape may be hidden, reducing visibility to other drivers
On certain heavy trucks, the mudflap hanger bracket may partially cover the rear reflective tape.
Insufficient air brake reservoir may reduce braking, raising crash risk
Some heavy trucks may have an air brake reservoir (tank) that is too small to meet federal brake standards.
Loose Steering Bolts Can Cause Loss of Steering Control
Certain 2017 Freightliner custom chassis trucks may have loose steering and tie rod arm bolts.
Brake Lights May Stay On After Pedal Is Released
Some 2017-2018 Freightliner Cascadia trucks may have brake lights that stay lit after the driver releases the brake pedal.
Fuel Line Can Burst and Engine May Stall
Certain heavy trucks with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines may have a fuel line that bursts during certain driving conditions, such as on a long downhill grade.
Dash Warning Lights May Not Check Brake Warnings
On certain 2017-2019 Freightliner Cascadia trucks, the instrument cluster may skip the startup bulb check for the anti-lock brake (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) warning lights if the ignition is switched off and back on too quickly.
Loose Brake Caliper Bolts May Reduce Braking Power
Certain 2017 FCCC chassis equipped with air disc brakes may have brake caliper mounting bolts that were not tightened enough at the factory, so the bolts can loosen over time.
Fire extinguisher may fail to discharge or nozzle may detach
Certain heavy trucks are equipped with Kidde plastic-handle or push-button "Pindicator" fire extinguishers that may become clogged.
Brake lights may fail to turn on after hard braking
On certain heavy trucks, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights when the brake pedal is lightly applied after hard braking.
Loose Steering Bolt Can Cause Loss of Steering Control
A bolt that secures the upper steering shaft on certain 2017-2018 Freightliner Cascadia trucks may not have been properly tightened.
Axle Shaft May Break, Causing Loss of Braking
Certain 2017 heavy trucks with NFD tandem rear axles may have an axle output shaft that was made brittle during the hardening process.
Tires May Separate Tread, Raising Crash Risk
Certain 2017 Freightliner Cascadia, Business Class M2, and 122SD trucks built between January 24, 2016 and October 10, 2016 may have tires that were cured improperly.
Road Spray Can Short Circuit Power Module, Raising Fire Risk
Certain 2013-2017 Freightliner Cascadia trucks built between September 24, 2012 and May 27, 2015 with compressed natural gas (CNG) engines have a Power Distribution Module (PDM) mounted near the CNG fuel tank.
Front Wheel Hubs May Fail, Causing Wheel Separation
Certain heavy-duty trucks built between March 2013 and July 2016 are equipped with aluminum non-high capacity front axle hubs that may be too weak for the front axle weight rating specified for the vehicle.
Engine may stall and fail to restart, raising crash risk
Certain 2017 heavy-duty trucks built from March 14, 2016, through May 18, 2016, with a Cummins ISX12 or ISX15 diesel engine may have an engine control module (ECM) that can develop an internal electrical short.

TL* THE CONTACT DROVE A 2017 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A CRASH MITIGATION SYSTEM INSTALLED BY A COMPANY CALLED WABCO. THE SYSTEM WAS A RADAR-BASED SYSTEM SET TO APPLY THE BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY TO AVOID COLLISIONS. WITHIN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, THERE WERE SOME SOFTWARE UPDATES AND THE SYSTEM WAS PICKING UP OTHER OBJECTS, SUCH AS OVERHEAD SIGNS THAT COULD CAUSE THE AUTO BRAKE SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE UNNECESSARILY. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS TESTED BY THE WABCO MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE THREE INCIDENCES WHEN THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING ENGAGED WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE PICKED UP ROAD SIGNS 20 FEET ABOV
I WORKED FOR A TRANSPORT FLEET THAT HAD NUMEROUS POWER STEERING GEARBOX ISSUES ON 2017 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA'S. DURING MY TENURE THERE I OVERSAW 8 TRUCKS THAT HAD STEERING BOX REPLACEMENTS DUE TO EITHER STEERING PULL OR LACK OF POWER ASSIST. I DIAGNOSED ANOTHER 5 UNITS AT THE MAIN OFFICE IN ROMULUS, MICHIGAN THAT NEEDED POWER STEERING BOXES. I HAVE ALSO WORKED CLOSELY WITH A FREIGHTLINER DEALER TO DETERMINE THE BOXES WERE FAILING DUE TO INCREASED HEAT BUILDUP, INTERNAL BEARING FAILURE AND FLUID DEGRADATION. I NOTED IN THE COMPLAINT OF 13 OCCURRENCES. THIS NUMBER WAS THE 8 REPLACED BOXES AND THE OTHER 5 I INSPECTED. THESE TRUCKS DEVELOPED STEERING PROBLEMS BETWEEN MAY 2018 THROUGH SEPTE
