Freightliner Cascadia Recall 16V416: Engine may stall and fail to restart, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 16V416, reported June 9, 2016, 268 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 heavy-duty trucks built from March 14, 2016, through May 18, 2016, with a Cummins ISX12 or ISX15 diesel engine may have an engine control module (ECM) that can develop an internal electrical short. The short can blow a fuse and cause the engine to stop unexpectedly. The engine then cannot be restarted.

An engine stall with no ability to restart can leave the truck stopped or unable to maintain speed, which increases the risk of a crash. If your truck is one of the affected models, contact the manufacturer or Cummins for guidance and avoid driving it until the repair is completed.

The repair is free. Cummins will notify owners, and Cummins dealers will install a new ECM and correct the ECM calibrations at no charge. Contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357, referencing recall FL-715. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
