Freightliner Cascadia Recall 18V742: Brake Lights May Stay On After Pedal Is Released

NHTSA campaign 18V742, reported October 19, 2018, 6,326 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2017-2018 Freightliner Cascadia trucks may have brake lights that stay lit after the driver releases the brake pedal. This is caused by a problem with the brake light switch.

When the brake lights remain on while the truck is no longer slowing, drivers behind may think the truck is still braking or slowing down when it is not. This can cause them to be unprepared for the actual traffic situation, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Owners will be notified by Daimler Trucks North America, and authorized dealers will replace the brake light switch. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-799. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
