Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Recall 22V796: Parking Pawl May Fail, Allowing Vehicle Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 22V796, reported October 21, 2022, 124,305 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The parking pawl inside the automatic transmission has a guide bushing that can wear out over time. If it fatigues, the parking pawl may not engage when the vehicle is parked, so the vehicle can roll away even when the parking brake is set.

A rollaway increases the risk of a crash, including collisions with people, property, or other vehicles. Owners should take this recall seriously and get it addressed promptly.

The remedy is free at an authorized dealer, where technicians will update the software in the electronic stability, transmission control, direct select module, and electronic ignition switch control units. Owner notification letters were mailed February 10, 2023. You can also contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
