What this recall means for you
Certain Sprinter vans with electric parking brakes may have rear brake calipers that leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake on the rear axle. This can let air enter the hydraulic brake system.
Air in the brake system can cause extended brake pedal travel, meaning the pedal may need to be pressed further before the brakes engage. That increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy is free: the manufacturer will replace the rear brake calipers at no cost to the owner. Owners were notified by mail starting January 4, 2022, and can contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
