Kenworth T680 Recall 21V00N: Methane alarm may fail if power is lost, risking fire

NHTSA campaign 21V00N, reported December 29, 2021, 1,107 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain heavy-duty trucks have a wiring defect in the methane detection system. If the system loses power, it will not function, so the driver may not know that a malfunction has occurred or that methane levels are dangerously high.

This increases the risk of injury or fire. A driver who is unaware of excessive methane may not take the precautions needed to stay safe.

The repair is free. Dealers will re-wire the warning alarm at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 1, 2022. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact your manufacturer's customer service: Peterbilt at 1-940-591-4220 or Kenworth at 1-425-828-5888, and check your VIN for open recalls.
