Tesla Model Y Recall 25V002: Rearview camera image can cut out, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 25V002, reported January 6, 2025, 239,382 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles may have a computer circuit board that can short, causing the rearview camera to lose its image. The vehicles therefore do not meet the federal rear visibility standard (FMVSS 111).

When the rearview camera shows no picture, the driver has less view of what is behind the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash while backing up. Owners should be alert to a blank or missing rear camera display.

Tesla has released an over-the-air software update at no charge, and will also identify vehicles that have had a circuit board failure, or that show stress that could lead to one, and replace the affected computers free of charge. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall SB-25-00-001. Check your VIN for open recalls.
