Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Recall 20V078: EGR Pipe Screws May Loosen, Leaking Hot Exhaust and Raising Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 20V078, reported February 12, 2020, 4,424 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The connecting screws on the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe may not have been correctly tightened at the factory. If they are not properly secured, hot exhaust gases can leak from the EGR pipe.

Hot exhaust leaking near the engine raises the risk of a fire. Owners should watch for warning signs and take the recall seriously rather than waiting for a problem to appear.

The repair is free. Dealers will renew the screw connection and the flange seals on the EGR pipe at no charge. Owners can contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 and should check their vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
