Ford F-150 Recall 19V278: Damaged Engine Block Heater Cable Can Overheat and Cause Fire

NHTSA campaign 19V278, reported April 8, 2019, 131,068 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some pickup trucks with an engine block heater had a previous repair under an earlier recall. During that repair, the splice connector on the block heater cable may have been damaged. A damaged cable can create a resistive short, which can overheat or melt the wiring and increase the risk of a fire.

Ford will notify owners of affected trucks. Dealers will disable the engine block heater so it cannot be used until a fix is available. When replacement cables are ready, Ford will mail a second notice, and dealers will replace the engine block heater cord at no cost to you.

To check whether your vehicle is affected, enter your VIN at the NHTSA recall lookup or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 19S11. Do not use the engine block heater on an affected truck until the remedy is completed.
