Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Recall 17V786: Fire extinguisher may fail to discharge or detach in a fire

NHTSA campaign 17V786, reported December 8, 2017, 550 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain camper and custom vans built on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and RAM ProMaster chassis are equipped with Kidde plastic-handle or push-button fire extinguishers. The extinguisher can become clogged, so it may not discharge as expected or may require excessive force to activate. In some models, the nozzle can also detach from the valve assembly with enough force to cause injury and make the extinguisher unusable.

If a fire occurs and the extinguisher does not work properly, the risk of injury increases. Owners should contact Kidde customer service at 1-855-262-3540 or visit www.kidde.com and click "Product Safety Recall" to confirm whether their extinguisher is affected.

Midwest Automotive Designs will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the fire extinguisher with a different brand at no cost. The recall began December 11, 2017. Check your VIN for open recalls on this vehicle.
