Ford F-250 SD Recall 22V087: Loose Underbody Shield Can Damage Driveshaft, Risking Crash

NHTSA campaign 22V087, reported February 16, 2022, 247,445 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Underbody heat and noise insulators on certain Super Duty pickups with gasoline engines and aluminum driveshafts may loosen and contact the driveshaft. Over time this contact can damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture.

A fractured driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power, or a loss of vehicle control if the driveshaft contacts the ground. Unintended movement could also occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Any of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.

The repair is free at an authorized Ford dealer, which will inspect and repair the driveshaft as necessary and properly attach the underbody insulators. Owner notification letters were mailed April 7, 2022. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 22S09), and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
