Ford Explorer Recall 20V692: Front Axle Bracket May Fail, Causing Loss of Power or Park

NHTSA campaign 20V692, reported November 10, 2020, 15,587 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail on certain vehicles with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front-wheel drive. A failed bracket can cause a loss of the park function, allowing the vehicle to move unintentionally even when it is supposed to be parked, and can cause a loss of motive power while driving.

These problems raise the risk of a crash, both from unexpected rolling and from sudden loss of power on the road. Owners received an interim notice about the safety risk in December 2020, and a second letter will be mailed when replacement parts become available. Parts were not yet available when the recall began on February 2, 2021.

The repair is free. Authorized Ford dealers will replace the link shaft bracket at no cost. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 20S63) and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
