Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Recall 19V004: Passenger airbag inflator may explode, sending metal fragments into occupants

NHTSA campaign 19V004, reported January 8, 2019, 88,388 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator in these vans can rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. Over time, the propellant inside the inflator can degrade from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, which may cause it to explode. Sharp metal fragments from the explosion could strike the driver or other occupants and cause serious injury or death.

If you own one of the affected Sprinter vans, contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 or check your VIN for open recalls. The passenger front airbag module will be replaced free of charge at an authorized dealer.
