Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Recall 19V003: Driver Airbag Inflator Can Explode, Causing Injury

NHTSA campaign 19V003, reported January 8, 2019, 71,301 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driver-side frontal airbag inflator in these vans may rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. Long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes can degrade the propellant, causing the inflator to explode.

An inflator explosion can send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, which may cause serious injury or death. Owners should not wait to have this addressed.

The replacement of the front driver airbag module is free at an authorized dealer. Owners can also contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
