- Component
- BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Problem
- Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image to fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Risk
- A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is HOX. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 20V438. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 9, 2026.
What this recall means for you
Water can enter the rearview camera on these Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2018 through 2020 model years, which may cause the camera image to fail to show when the vehicle is in reverse. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 for rear visibility.
Without a working rear view image, the driver has less visibility of what is behind the vehicle, which raises the risk of a crash while backing up. Owners should be aware of this, especially when reversing in tight spaces or near people and objects.
The rearview camera will be replaced free of charge at an authorized Honda dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2026. You can also contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (Honda recall number HOX), and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall 20V438.
