Tesla Model 3 Recall 24V153: Muted pedestrian alert sounds can raise crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V153, reported February 27, 2024, 6,557 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A factory reset can mute the Pedestrian Warning System sounds on certain Tesla Model S, Model 3, and Model X vehicles. Without these sounds, pedestrians may not realize a nearby electric vehicle is approaching, which increases the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141 for minimum sound from hybrid and electric vehicles.

Tesla is fixing this with an over-the-air software update, release 2023.44.30.14, delivered remotely at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed April 27, 2024. If you have questions, you can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer if you prefer to have it done there. You can also check your vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA recall website to confirm whether any open recalls apply to your car.
