Ford F-150 Recall 23V896: Rear axle bolts can break, risking rollaway or power loss

NHTSA campaign 23V896, reported December 22, 2023, 112,965 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain trucks with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy duty rear axle may have a rear axle hub bolt that can fatigue and break. A broken bolt can damage the axle hub splines.

Damaged hub splines can cause the vehicle to roll away when it is in park without the parking brake applied, or cause a loss of drive power. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 9, 2025. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 23S65), and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
