Ford Maverick Recall 23V848: Dead rear turn signal may not warn other drivers

NHTSA campaign 23V848, reported December 15, 2023, 189,814 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A rear turn signal can stop working on certain Maverick vehicles, and the vehicle's system does not change the turn signal flash rate to alert the driver that a signal is out. The vehicles therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.

If a rear turn signal fails, other drivers may not see that you are turning, which increases the risk of a crash.

Ford will update the body control module software at authorized dealers at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed January 16, 2024. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and you should check your VIN for open recalls.

Problem
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. In the event that one of the rear turn signals stops working, the vehicle will not adjust the turn signal flash rate frequency to warn the driver that a turn signal is not working correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk
A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal will not notify other drivers that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.
