Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 Recall 23V309: EV Battery Warning May Fail to Alert Drivers to Malfunction

NHTSA campaign 23V309, reported May 2, 2023, 3,828 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The high-voltage battery monitoring software in these electric vehicles may not alert the driver when the battery has a malfunction. Because the warning may not appear, the vehicle may not meet the federal electrical safety requirements for electrolyte spillage and electrical shock protection (FMVSS 305).

A battery problem that goes unreported may increase the risk of injury, since the driver may not know to stop or seek service before the fault becomes more serious. Owners should be aware that the warning system may not function as intended.

Dealers will update the battery management system software at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters began mailing on August 18, 2023. You can check whether your vehicle is affected by entering your VIN in the NHTSA recall lookup, or contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 (MBUSA recall number 2023070013).
