What this recall means for you
Certain Mercedes-Benz Metris vans from model years 2015 through 2018 may have a defective memory chip in the rearview camera. The chip can cause the display image to freeze, so the screen no longer shows what is currently behind the vehicle.
A frozen rearview image is dangerous because it does not reflect the live view behind the van. A driver relying on that screen while backing up may not see a person, child, object or another vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.
If you own one of these vehicles, contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to have the rearview camera replaced free of charge. You can also call Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 and reference recall number VS2RU54KAM. Owner notification letters were mailed February 10, 2023. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your van is affected.
