Ford E-450 Recall 22V089: Loss of Power Steering and Brake Assist Can Raise Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 22V089, reported February 16, 2022, 44,219 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vans with dual rear wheels have a connection between the power steering pressure line and the brake Hydroboost unit that may not be adequate. If it fails, power steering fluid can be lost suddenly, which can cause a loss of both power steering and power brake assist. Losing these functions makes it harder to steer and stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the connection between the power steering lines and the Hydroboost unit and replace the power steering lines where needed. The repair is free of charge. Owners who have not yet had the work done can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 22S08.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls on the NHTSA website or through your Ford dealer to confirm whether your van is affected.
