Freightliner Cascadia Recall 21V689: Steering Link Can Detach, Causing Loss of Steering Control

NHTSA campaign 21V689, reported September 2, 2021, 113,085 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Freightliner Cascadia trucks may have a drag link taper joint that was not tightened enough during assembly. Over time the joint could come loose, allowing the drag link to fully separate from the steering arm.

If the drag link separates, the driver can lose steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this seriously and have the truck checked.

The inspection and any necessary repair to the drag link taper joint are free of charge at an authorized dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 29, 2021. For questions, contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712, referencing recall FL-900, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
