Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 Recall 21V288: Water Leak Can Cause Fire, Lost Power, or Locked Doors

NHTSA campaign 21V288, reported April 23, 2021, 6,331 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A/C drain hoses may have been installed incorrectly, allowing water to drain into the passenger compartment and collect in the driver and passenger foot wells. This water can corrode and short-circuit electrical components, which may increase the risk of a fire. The water can also disable the emergency call (eCall) feature, prevent the doors from unlocking, and cause the engine to not start or enter a limp-home mode, raising the risk of injury or a crash.

Dealers will inspect and correct the air conditioner drain hoses as needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 4, 2021.

To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2021040024, and check your VIN for open recalls.
