Volvo VNL Recall 20V384: Label Overstates Rear Axle Capacity; Hubs May Fail

NHTSA campaign 20V384, reported July 1, 2020, 89 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018-2021 Volvo VNL and VNR trucks have a Federal Certification Label that lists a rear drive axle Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) higher than the rating of the wheel hubs. The vehicles therefore do not meet the federal certification requirements in 49 CFR Part 567.

If the rear axles are loaded beyond what the wheel hubs can handle, the hubs may fail prematurely over time, which increases the risk of a crash.

Volvo will notify owners and send corrected replacement labels at no cost. Owners can contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2002. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
