BMW 325i Recall 20V018: Passenger airbag may explode and send metal shrapnel into occupants

NHTSA campaign 20V018, reported January 15, 2020, 292,948 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side front airbag inflator in these BMW vehicles can degrade over time, especially after long exposure to high humidity, high temperatures, and repeated temperature changes. The inflator may rupture when the airbag deploys, sending sharp metal fragments toward the occupants.

An inflator explosion can cause serious injury or death to the driver or other occupants. Owners should treat this recall seriously and not delay the repair.

BMW will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the passenger's front airbag at no cost. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
