Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 19V869: Loose Engine Fan Bolts Can Detach, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 19V869, reported December 6, 2019, 145 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2021 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses with Detroit Diesel DD5 engines may have fan hub bolts that were not tightened enough. Loose bolts can let the cooling fan damage nearby engine components or break free from the engine entirely.

If the fan detaches, the bus can be disabled in traffic, which may require an evacuation of passengers in an uncontrolled traffic situation and increases the risk of injury.

Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the fan hub bolts free of charge. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-841). You can also check your bus's VIN for open recalls.
