Mazda CX-7 Recall 19V782: Passenger Airbag Inflator May Explode, Injuring Occupants

NHTSA campaign 19V782, reported October 31, 2019, 69,879 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger frontal airbag inflator in these vehicles was previously replaced under an earlier recall, but the replacement uses the same design. Over time, long-term exposure to high humidity, heat, and repeated temperature changes can degrade the propellant inside the inflator, which may cause it to rupture or explode when the airbag deploys.

An inflator explosion can send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, which may result in serious injury or death. Mazda advises owners not to drive the vehicle until the repair has been completed.

The remedy is free: an authorized Mazda dealer will replace the passenger front airbag inflator with an alternate one at no cost. Owners can contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, or check their VIN for open recalls. Mazda's recall number for this campaign is 1317F, and it supersedes recalls 16V356 and 17V012.
