Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Recall 19V309: High Beams May Stay On and Blind Oncoming Drivers

NHTSA campaign 19V309, reported April 18, 2019, 1,517 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans, sold under both the Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz names, have a software error in the control unit for the high-beam assist feature. The error can stop the driver from switching the high beams off when they intend to.

If the high beams stay on, oncoming traffic can be blinded by the vehicle's lights, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this if they drive these vans at night or on roads with oncoming traffic.

The remedy is free. Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealers will update the control unit software at no cost, and the owner will be notified. You can call Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 and reference recall number VS3FERNLI, or check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
