Freightliner Cascadia Recall 19V093: Tie Rod Can Fail, Causing Loss of Steering Control

NHTSA campaign 19V093, reported February 12, 2019, 111 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain trucks with Hendrickson 5-inch drop axles may have a front axle, brake lining, and brake spider combination that causes high vibrations during braking. Over time, these vibrations can cause the tie-rod tube to fail early.

If a tie-rod fails, the front wheels can disconnect from each other, causing a loss of steering ability and increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk and check whether their vehicle is affected.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the stamped brake spiders and the tie-rod at no cost. Owners will be notified by mail, but you can also contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-807) and check your VIN for open recalls.

The repair is normally free at an authorized dealer.
