Freightliner 108SD Recall 18V646: Steering Shaft May Disconnect From Steering Wheel

NHTSA campaign 18V646, reported September 19, 2018, 19,754 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, and Business Class M2 trucks from model years 2018 and 2019 may have a steering shaft assembly that was installed incorrectly. This can cause a loss of connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels.

If the steering wheel and front wheels become disconnected, the driver can lose control of the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this seriously and act promptly.

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect and repair the steering shaft assembly as necessary at no cost to you. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-791. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
