Mercedes-Benz E 300 Recall 18V515: Passenger airbag may not turn off with child seat

NHTSA campaign 18V515, reported August 3, 2018, 345 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2018 and 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLS vehicles, the Occupant Classification System, which detects whether a seat is occupied and whether a child seat is installed, may not be properly calibrated. As a result, the front passenger airbag may not be deactivated when a child seat is in the front seat.

If a child seat is in the front seat and the passenger airbag is not turned off, a crash could increase the risk of injury to the child. Owners should not place a child seat in the front passenger seat of an affected vehicle until the recall repair has been completed.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion free of charge. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 for more information, and can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
