Freightliner Cascadia Recall 18V503: Tie-Rod Can Fail, Causing Loss of Steering Control

NHTSA campaign 18V503, reported July 31, 2018, 1,256 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain heavy trucks have a front axle, brake lining, and brake spider combination that can cause high vibrations during braking. Over time, these vibrations can lead to early failure of the tie-rod tube, the part that connects the front wheels.

If the tie-rod fails, the front wheels can disconnect from each other, causing a loss of steering ability and increasing the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the brake linings, brake spider, and tie-rod at no charge. Owners will be notified by Daimler Trucks North America, or you can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall FL782. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
