GMC Sierra 1500 Recall 18V267: Fire extinguisher may clog or fail to discharge in a fire

NHTSA campaign 18V267, reported April 26, 2018, 6,154 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain plastic-handle or push-button fire extinguishers installed in these vehicles may become clogged, so the extinguisher may not discharge as expected or may require excessive force to activate. In some models the nozzle can also detach from the valve assembly with enough force to cause injury and make the extinguisher unusable.

If a fire starts and the extinguisher does not work properly, the risk of injury increases. Check whether your vehicle has one of the affected extinguishers by reviewing the full list of models in the NHTSA recall documentation.

GM will notify owners. Contact Kidde to obtain a replacement fire extinguisher at no cost. Owners can also call Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or Isuzu at 1-866-441-9638, and should reference GM recall number 18146. Check your VIN for open recalls at NHTSA or your dealer.
