Kenworth T680 Recall 18V092: Gear Display May Show Neutral While Truck Is in Drive or Reverse

NHTSA campaign 18V092, reported February 2, 2018, 1,938 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The gear position display on certain trucks with an Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage automated transmission and a right-hand stalk shifter may show the wrong gear. The display can read 'N' (neutral) even when the shifter is set to 'D' (drive) or 'R' (reverse). As a result, the truck will not move as the driver expects, which can increase the risk of a crash.

The affected trucks fail to meet federal safety standards for transmission shift lever sequencing and for control and displays. The recall covers 2017-2018 model year vehicles, and owners will be notified by mail.

A transmission software update will be installed by dealers at no cost to you. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls, and contact PACCAR customer service if you have questions: Kenworth at 1-425-828-5000 or Peterbilt at 1-940-591-4220 (PACCAR recall numbers 18KWA and 118-A).
