- Problem
- Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- If the load capacity information is incorrect on the label, the vehicle may be overloaded, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will check the label and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2017. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
The certification label on the B-pillar of certain 2016 vans may state a higher maximum vehicle load capacity than the vehicle is designed to carry. The vehicle therefore does not comply with federal certification requirements under 49 CFR Part 567.
If the load capacity printed on the label is wrong, an owner could load the van beyond what it is built to handle. An overloaded vehicle has a greater risk of a crash, since it may handle, brake, and respond to emergencies differently than expected.
The repair is free. Dealers will check the label and replace it if needed. Owners can contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
