Toyota Tundra Recall 17V051: Rear bumper corner may break away when stepped on

NHTSA campaign 17V051, reported January 24, 2017, 72,847 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A damaged resin rear step bumper bracket can go unnoticed after an impact to the corner of the bumper. Over time, the bumper corner can then break away if someone steps on it, which raises the risk of injury. Only vehicles with a resin rear step bumper are affected; vehicles with a chrome step bumper are not.

Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles. Authorized dealers will replace the resin rear bumper reinforcement brackets with steel ones and replace the rear bumper tread, free of charge. Owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and reference recall number H0C.

We recommend checking your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls, and having an authorized dealer inspect and repair your rear bumper if your truck is included in this recall.
