Peterbilt 389 Recall 16V872: Brake lights may fail to light when braking

NHTSA campaign 16V872, reported December 5, 2016, 2,046 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 Peterbilt trucks built between April and June 2016 may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the brakes are applied. This means the vehicle does not meet federal lighting safety standards.

If the brake lights stay off during braking, drivers behind you will not know you are slowing or stopping, which can raise the risk of a rear-end crash.

Owners will be notified by PACCAR. Dealers will inspect and replace any brake light switch with date code 08-01760 at no cost to you. You can contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4000 and reference recall number 816-F, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
