Freightliner Business Class M2 Recall 16V658: Loose Brake Caliper Bolts Can Reduce Braking

NHTSA campaign 16V658, reported September 13, 2016, 251 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some trucks may have brake caliper mounting bolts that were not torqued correctly at the factory. Over time these bolts can loosen and even detach, which may reduce braking ability and raise the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the brake caliper mounting bolts, check that they are properly torqued, and tighten them as needed. Owners can also contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712, referencing recall FL-722, for more information. Owners who received an interim notice on November 7, 2016, or a second notice mailed January 26, 2017, should still schedule the inspection, since the final remedy is now available.

You can check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or at a Freightliner dealer. If you have concerns about brake performance before your appointment, contact an authorized dealer promptly.
