Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Recall 16V261: Windows May Separate From Vehicle in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 16V261, reported April 29, 2016, 55 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vans had multiple layers of paint applied during manufacturing. The outer paint layer can peel away from the layer beneath it, which may cause the windows to separate from the vehicle in a crash.

If a window separates during a collision, occupants face a greater risk of injury. Owners do not need to wait for a repair to be scheduled to take precautions beyond the usual safe driving habits, and should contact the manufacturer if they have concerns.

The remedy is free. Daimler Vans USA will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will remove the windows, inspect the paintwork, and repaint the vehicle where necessary at no charge. Owners can call Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-770-705-2070, and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
