The engine had a fire and the ignition switch is very hard Do turn, it would be available for inspection. The fire happen while driving down the highway. I have an appointment set with dealership. No prior inspections have been made and no indications of anything.
JULY 17TH 2019 ENGINE DIES WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. REPLACED CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. DIED IN MOTION AGAIN JULY 24TH, REPLACED ALTERNATOR. THIS SAME PROBLEM ORIGINALLY HAPPENED IN SEPT OF 2011, AGAIN IN MARCH OF 2015, AND MARCH OF 2017. DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS HAVE REPLACED MANY DIFFERENT PARTS ATTEMPTING TO FIX THIS OVER THE YEARS. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER WHILE TRAVELING 65 MILES AN HOUR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE AND I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING AND CONTINUED DRIVING. I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS ON FIRE AND RAN INTO THE GAS STATION AND ASKED FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE ATTENDANT HAD ONE AND WENT AND PUT THE FIRE. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO A RECALL WHICH CAUSED OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE MANIFOLD AND THUS FAR THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. *JS - (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS
VEHICLE CAN NO LONGER TURN TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. I DON'T THINK RECALL 03052 WAS EVER DONE ON IT. CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE IT'S UNSAFE FOR ME AS WELL AS THE PUBLIC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
