Gillig LOW Floor Recall 26V190: Wrong tire load rating on placard could lead to overloaded rear tires

NHTSA campaign 26V190, reported March 26, 2026, 6 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023 and 2024 Gillig Low Floor transit buses equipped with Michelin X InCity Grip D rear tires have a federal placard that may list a rear Gross Axle Weight Rating higher than the tires can safely carry. The vehicles also do not fully meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120 for wheels and rims.

If the placard references an incorrect rating, the rear tires could be unintentionally overloaded, which increases the risk of a crash.

Gillig will replace the federal placard free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 24, 2026. You can contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500, and you can check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
