NHTSA campaign 26V128, reported March 5, 2026, 686,588 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2024 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles have a defect in which the second-row seat backs may fail to lock into position when adjusted. A seat back that does not lock may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, which increases the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the return springs in the seat back recliner assemblies at no cost to owners. Owner letters were mailed September 9, 2026. This is a phased recall, so the remedy may not yet be available for every vehicle. Owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 for more information.
