Indian Scout Recall 24V970: Gear display can wrongly show neutral, risking sudden movement

NHTSA campaign 24V970, reported December 23, 2024, 4,926 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain motorcycles, the gear position display may incorrectly show that the transmission is in neutral when it is actually in gear. Because the display is wrong, the motorcycle may move unexpectedly, and the vehicle does not meet federal motorcycle control and display requirements.

An unexpected movement increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to any sign that the gear indicator does not match how the bike is behaving.

The repair is free. Dealers will update the engine control module software at no charge. Owners who received notification letters mailed January 29, 2025 can contact Indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
