Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall 24V872: Speedometer may show wrong speed, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V872, reported November 19, 2024, 7,198 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L vehicles have a software error in the instrument panel cluster. The speedometer may display an incorrect vehicle speed, so these vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 for displays and controls.

Driving without knowing your vehicle's actual speed increases the risk of a crash, since you may unknowingly travel faster or slower than you think and be unable to adjust safely to traffic and road conditions.

The remedy is free. Dealers will inspect and update the instrument panel cluster software as needed. Owner notification letters were mailed December 3, 2024. To check whether your vehicle is affected, enter your VIN at a site that lists open recalls, and contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (reference recall B8B) to schedule the repair with an authorized dealer.
