RAM 1500 Recall 24V653: Stability Control May Be Disabled, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 24V653, reported September 5, 2024, 1,025,432 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A software malfunction in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module can cause the electronic stability control system to turn off. Because the vehicle then fails to meet federal stability control requirements, it may be harder to keep control in a skid or emergency maneuver, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the ABS control module software at no charge. Owner notification letters began mailing September 26, 2024, and interim notification letters were mailed October 10, 2024. If you have questions, you can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall 85B.

You should schedule the free software update with an authorized dealer as soon as possible. You can also check your vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site to confirm whether any open recalls apply to it.
