Volkswagen Atlas Recall 24V480: Rearview camera may lag or shut off in reverse

What this recall means for you

Certain Volkswagen Golf GTI, Golf R, Atlas, and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles from model years 2022 to 2024 may have a rearview camera whose image is delayed or deactivated after the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The vehicles therefore do not meet federal rear visibility requirements. A delayed or missing camera image reduces your view of what is behind the vehicle, which increases the risk of injury or a crash.

Volkswagen will update the infotainment system software at an authorized dealer at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 15 and July 16, 2024. If you have questions, you can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298, referencing recall number 91US.

You should check whether your vehicle is affected by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup or with your Volkswagen dealer. Until the update is done, use extra caution and check behind your vehicle with your own eyes and mirrors before backing up.
